56th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Archaeological Association

2024 Call for Abstracts

Canadian Archaeological Association (CAA) 56th Annual Meeting
“Bridging Time, Building Trust, Bringing Truth”
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, May 1–5, 2024

Welcome to the 56th Canadian Archaeological Association Conference! This year the conference will be hosted by the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society in collaboration with the University of Saskatchewan’s Department of Anthropology. This conference will have both in-person and virtual attendance options. Our theme is “Bridging Time, Building Trust, Bringing Truth”, which speaks to the role of archaeology as a connector between the past and the present at a time when commitment to authentic and beneficial relationships is strong. This conference is where we come together to share and learn from each other and reflect on archaeology’s past, present, and future impact.

Call for Paper and Poster Abstracts

Please consider submitting a paper or poster abstract for the upcoming meeting. Papers and posters may be presented in-person or pre-recorded. Abstract submission will open on February 15, 2024. All abstracts should be submitted by March 15 March 29, 2024.

Pre-recorded presentations must be submitted by April 15, 2024.

General format of the conference:

  1. The conference will include oral sessions and poster sessions. Session outlines can be found on the conference website and questions about specific sessions should be directed to the session chair(s).
  2. Time allocation for oral presentations will be 15 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for questions.
  3. Posters will be set up in a conference room for two-hour blocks; however, poster presenters may choose when they would like to be present at the poster session during that two-hour block.

Guidelines for presenters:

  1. The conference will consist of oral and poster presentations.
  2. At the time of submission, contributors may choose if they would like to present a paper or poster. If sessions are over-subscribed, some presenters may be asked to change to poster format.
  3. At the time of submission, contributors may choose to participate in-person or submit a pre-recorded presentation. For in-person sessions, you can submit to in-person format sessions. There will be a separate online room for online sessions and presentations. For online sessions, only pre-recorded formats will be accepted.
  4. Contributors do not have to specify a session when they submit; if contributors do not specify a session, the program committee will assign them to a pre-existing session (with the approval of the session organizers) or to a general session.
  5. Each contributor may be a lead author on two presentations, and co-author on up to two additional presentations.
  6. When there are multiple authors on an abstract, the presenter must be clearly identified.

  10. Presenters must be Individual members in good standing of the Canadian Archaeological Association at the time the abstract is submitted and at the time of the conference.
  11. Presenters will be expected to register for the conference at the time the abstract is submitted.
  12. Co-authors who will not be presenting or attending the conference do not have to be members of the Canadian Archaeological Association or register for or attend the conference.
  13. Abstracts need to be submitted through the CAA website portal and will be reproduced as submitted. Contributors are responsible for proof-reading their abstract.
  14. Poster dimensions should be 4 feet (122 cm) wide by 3 feet (91.5 cm) tall (i.e., landscape mode).

 Evaluation:

  1. After the deadline, all abstracts will be reviewed by the program committee.

  3. Submission of an abstract is not a guarantee of acceptance.
  4. Presenter conflicts between sessions will be resolved by the Program Chair.
